Selena Gomez Was “Devastated” When She Found out Justin Bieber Proposed to Hailey Baldwin (EXCLUSIVE)

On July 9, Justin Bieber took to Instagram to confirm his engagement to his off-again, on-again girlfriend Hailey Baldwin and needless to say, it sent shockwaves through the Internet. While Justin and Hailey are seemingly a match made in heaven, it’s hard to ignore Justin’s once very public romance with Selena Gomez.

So much so, that fans can’t help but wonder what was going through the 25-year-old's mind when the news broke. After all, learning that an ex is getting married can’t be easy.

"She found out about the engagement from friends, who gave her the heads up as soon as the news broke," a source tells In Touch. The "It Ain’t Me" singer, who was caught on video sunning herself on a boat while cruising the Hudson River in NYC with friends the day the news broke, "tried to play it cool and said she saw it coming, but she was shocked and yes, she is devastated. She always held out hope that she would marry Justin and have his children."

Even if Selena has to spend some time licking her wounds, it’s clear from insiders that Justin and Hailey are very happy together and that marriage was just the natural progression of things. "They’ve been talking about marriage for a couple of months," a source reveals to In Touch.

"He surprised Hailey with a huge engagement ring. She was honestly shocked. He proposed the old-fashioned way — he got on one knee and asked her if she would spend the rest of her life with him. She started crying as soon as he pulled the ring out, and then he teared up."
