A Hairy Situation! Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Dakota Mortensen Documents Hair Transplant Journey

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives stars better watch out with their luscious locks because it looks like there’s about to be another diva in town. Dakota Mortensen revealed he was undergoing a hair transplant and would be documenting the process on social media.

“Full head of hair coming in hot,” Dakota, 31, captioned a video he shared via TikTok on January 11.

In the clip, the dad of one was sporting a blue hospital gown while wearing a hairnet. He wrote across the video, “When you’re going bald so you get a hair transplant.”

Dakota told his followers that he was going to “post the full process” in followup videos and the reality star stayed true to his word. In a subsequent video, Dakota showed clips from his day that included medical professionals shaving part of his head, a purple line indicating where his new hairline would be and more.

“We’ll take out blood and we’ll inject it up here,” one of the doctors said while using a syringe on the top part of Dakota’s head. Dakota added that he felt like something was “squeezing his head,” and a woman in the background could be heard saying, “It will feel like that the whole day.”

Several tiny punctures were made in the Idaho native’s scalp before a doctor explained the process.

“You can see now, pretty well, where all the sites are. We’ve got a little bit of dye on them,” the doctor said while pointing out the small holes. “Each one of these is where a hair will go, and now we’re going to go and start harvesting hair from the back of the scalp.”

He added, “And much like going to grab a treat from the nursery, we’re going to go down around each hair follicle here one at a time.”

The medical professional continued to show viewers how they completed the hair transplant by removing full hair follicles and transporting them to the areas Dakota wanted filled in. At the end of the video, Dakota showed “the final product” which he described as looking like “a bunch of maggots.” However, he assured his fans that he would be “looking like Fabio when it’s all said and done.”

In the caption, he wrote, “Couldn’t show a lot ‘cause of how bloody it was. But such a crazy process.”

Fans got to know more about Dakota during the first season of Hulu’s Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. During the inaugural season, Dakota was dating TikTok star Taylor Frankie Paul, but their tumultuous relationship had fans torn on how to feel about the couple.

Taylor and Dakota broke up after an argument in March 2023 but eventually got back together and it wasn’t long before she learned she was pregnant with their child. She gave birth to their son, Ever, in March 2024 and the event was captured during season 1.

However, since filming ended Taylor and Dakota have broken up and gotten back together numerous times. While it seems the couple might be dating once more (Dakota posted about “moving in” with someone on December 31, 2024, and TikTok videos later showed him dancing in Taylor’s home,) neither Taylor or Dakota have officially confirmed their relationship status.
