Sarah Jessica Parker Says Goodbye to Carrie Bradshaw as ‘Sex and the City’ Franchise Ends After 27 Years

Carrie Bradshaw has officially written her final column.

Sarah Jessica Parker is bidding farewell to the iconic character she’s portrayed for nearly three decades, as HBO Max’s And Just Like That will wrap for good at the end of its third season. Showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed the Sex and the City universe is coming to a close — and Parker didn’t hold back her emotions about the milestone.

The Emmy-winning actress, 59, shared a touching tribute on Instagram alongside a montage of Carrie’s most memorable scenes and a heartfelt poem that captured the spirit of the character she’s played since 1998.

“She has worn shame, pride, honor, optimism and literally countless dresses, skirts, tutus. Held onto hands, hopes and the very best of people. Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte, there will never be better friends and what great fortune for Carrie to come to know and love Seema and LTW, most divine new connections. Carrie Bradshaw has dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.”

Parker continued: “I know others have loved her just as I have. Been frustrated, condemned and rooted for her. The symphony of all those emotions has been the greatest soundtrack and most consequential companion. Therefore the most sentimental and profound gratitude and lifetime of debt. To you all.”

While the poem struck a nostalgic tone, Parker also expressed deep gratitude for the cast and crew behind the show:

“AJLT was all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent of 380 that includes all the brilliant actors who joined us. I am better for every single day I spent with you.”

Kristin Davis, who played Charlotte York since the series began, shared her own message of appreciation — and sadness.

“I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever.”

As for why the announcement didn’t come sooner, showrunner Michael Patrick King said it was intentional.

“We didn’t want the word ‘final’ to overshadow the fun of watching the season. It’s with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.”

The Sex and the City franchise spans six original seasons, two films and three seasons of And Just Like That. The final two episodes of the series — airing soon on HBO Max — will officially mark the end of Carrie Bradshaw’s long and unforgettable journey.
