It’s a sad day in Hollywood. Lee Thompson Young, who played the main character on the Disney Channel series The Famous Jett Jackson and was currently starring on TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles, has taken his own life.
His rep confirmed the sad news. The South Carolina-born actor was just 29.
TNT, Warner Bros. and Rizzoli & Isles executive producer Janet Tamaro issued a statement to In Touch about his death.
“Everyone at Rizzoli and Isles is devastated by the news of the passing of Lee Thompson Young. We are beyond heartbroken at the loss of this sweet, gentle, good-hearted, intelligent man. He was truly a member of our family. Lee will be cherished and remembered by all who knew and loved him, both on- and offscreen, for his positive energy, infectious smile and soulful grace. We send our deepest condolences and thoughts to his family, to his friends and, most especially, to his beloved mother.”
Sources tell TMZ that when he didn’t show up to film the TNT show, staffers called the landlord of his home to check on him. The landlord apparently found his body.
After finding success on Disney in the late 1990s, he graduated to adult roles, including a key part in the movie Friday Night Lights and guest roles in TV shows like Scrubs, Smallville, and CSI: New York.
Lee also starred as FBI agent Al Gough on the short-lived ABC drama FlashForward. Ironically, he was written off the show after his character committed suicide.
Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
