Nicole Richie Reveals Why Marriage to Joel Madden Works: ‘We Love to Laugh and Have Fun’
Seems like marriage is a pretty simple life. Nicole Richie recently told Us Weekly her trick to a long-lasting relationship with husband Joel Madden at the launch of NicholeXCapsuleChix collection.
“I don’t know [if there’s] a secret [to it], other than we love to laugh and have fun,” the 37-year-old said. “It’s nice doing the journey of life together. Doing it with somebody else that has the same goals as you is a really fun way to live.”
The brains behind House of Harlow also added that her man, 40, is “the most supportive.” Back in March, Nicole celebrated the rocker’s birthday on Instagram writing, “Here we are at 25 & 27. Today you’re 40. Happy Birthday to my P.I.C., my ride or die, & my best friend for life @joelmadden 🖤🖤🖤” Soon after, Joel took to the ‘gram to wish his lady a happy mother’s day. “Happy Mother’s Day Nicole ❤️There aren’t words to tell you how blessed I feel, and how thankful I am ❤️”
The two started dating back in 2006 and announced their engagement in February 2010 on the Late Show with David Letterman. The couple shares two children together, daughter, Harlow, 11, and son, Sparrow, 9.

“I think we just have to encourage kids to be themselves and to stand up for what they believe in and to stand up for something,” the working mother told Us. As a mom to a little girl, Nicole found it important to partner with a company that encourages uniqueness in young women.
“What I love so much about these dolls is that it celebrates individuality, which is something that I think is super important, especially for girls now,” she said of her collection of dolls, NicoleXCapsuleChix, with Moose Toys, “Girls don’t want a doll that just has the blonde hair and the blue eyes and saying, ‘This is what beauty is, and this is what you need to be.’”
