Protecting his future love? Nicki Minaj recalled the time her boyfriend, Kenneth “Zoo” Petty, beat up her ex-boyfriend on the latest episode of her Apple Beats1 talk show, “Queen Radio.

“Someone asked me because they heard the song — the verse that I did on the Chance record — asking me where do you [Kenneth] fit in the picture of my love life, like where did you come about because they are like woah, this timeline is starting to overlap,” the 36-year-old said. “The person that I was rapping about, that I met when I was 14 or 15 [years old] … The person that you guys asked me about — this was a dope question — was a person who basically got cheated on with, and he was the person that it was, and then you saw him and fought him.”

The 41-year-old replied, “I beat the s—t out of him.” However, Nicki didn’t like when her man used those words. “Not going to be mean, babe,” she said.

The “Super Bass” rapper asked Kenneth if she could tell the story about a specific phone call. “So, I was at my house and back then, we had regular phones, not cellphones,” she said. “I don’t know, we had beepers, so I never usually answered my phone. The one f—king time boyfriend is over there, the phone rings. I pick up the f—king phone, it’s Kenneth Petty, and now I am sitting there with boyfriend, sitting right in front of me, and you on the phone, and I know boyfriend could hear his voice right through the phone. He is like, ‘Hello?’ I literally didn’t know what to say.”

Unfortunately, things got heated after that chat. “And then boyfriend takes the phone, and this was the iconic conversation of my life,” she confessed. “This is what they said for five minutes straight on the phone, y’all. ‘What up? What up? What up? What up?’ And two days later, this crazy man went and saw boyfriend and attacked him.”

But Kenneth wanted to set the record straight: “I didn’t attack him, I beat the s—t out of him,” he said.

Again, the Grammy nominee reminded Kenneth that he needed to be respectful of her ex. “I said be nice, I said we are not beating the s—t out of people,” she replied to Kenneth. “That was my first love, babe. You need to stop. That was a couple of years into the relationship, that is why I was clarifying it. I think I was on my last year of school when you saw me at the bus stop, sweating me, but then our lives just took completely different turns.”

The New York native debuted her relationship with Kenneth in December 2018. “Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happens? … It’s no secreet … that the both of us … are running out of time,” she captioned several posts of Kenneth at the time.

However, Kenneth has a shady past since he is a registered sex offender in the state of New York and was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 and pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2006. He spent several years in prison and was released in 2013. Nicki doesn’t seem to mind, though, since she publicly defended him on social media. “Y’all can’t run my life. Y’all can even run y’all own life,” she clapped back.

Fans are also waiting for the lovebirds to get married since Nicki recently revealed that they already took the first steps towards tying the knot. “We did get our marriage license,” the brunette beauty said on her show on June 21. “I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there, I don’t want to compromise that for anyone or anything.”

Well, it seems like Kenneth is definitely Nicki’s knight in shining armor.
