Sticking up for her friend. Nicki Minaj shared a scary story about a past performance in Jamaica in support of her friend A$AP Rocky — who is currently in jail in Sweden.

“I performed in Jamaica before, and when I got off the stage, I was surrounded by police with guns drawn,” she wrote on Twitter on Tuesday, July 9. “They were ready to take me to jail because they said I forgot to bleep a couple curses. I could make one mistake and go to jail in a different country where women have no rights. #FreeAsap.”

Of course, the 36-year-old received backlash for her comments on social media. One person wrote, “Women have rights now in Jamaica, and they had them in 2010, LMFAO,” while another echoed, “As a Jamaican woman, I would love to explain how we have no rights here?”

But the “Megatron” rapper wanted to make sure her followers were clear on what she was trying to say. “Ummm for the people in the back, I wasn’t saying Jamaica doesn’t have women’s rights,” she wrote. “I gave an example of what happened in JA to explain how easy it would be to do one thing wrong in Saudi Arabia because I’m not aware of every single rule and be locked up. Everyone knows I love JA. STFU. It’s like y’all purposely misunderstand me. Just say you don’t like and GWARN!!!!”

Meanwhile, A$AP was involved in a huge fight with two unnamed men while visiting Stockholm on June 30. “SO, A FEW DRUG ADDICTS ARE NOT MY FANS, WE DON’T KNOW THESE GUYS, AND WE DIDN’T WANT TROUBLE,” he captioned the clip on Instagram at the time. “THEY FOLLOWED US FOR 4 BLOCKS, AND THEY WERE SLAPPING GIRLS BUTTS WHO PASSED. GIVE ME A BREAK.”

Afterward, the rapper, 30, voluntarily went to the police station to talk about what happened, but it was reported that he was arrested immediately, and the American embassy wasn’t aware of what happened — which is against protocol. Then, a Swedish court ordered him to be held for two weeks because they think he’s a flight risk. However, A$AP’s lawyer, Henrick Olsson Lilja, is going to appeal the case, but he is facing up to six years in prison if convicted of the serious assault.

The brunette beauty decided to pull out of a concert in Saudi Arabia after she was criticized for headlining the event. “After careful reflection, I have decided to no longer move forward with my scheduled concert at Jeddah World Fest,” Nicki told People in a statement on July 9. “While I want nothing more than to bring my show to fans in Saudi Arabia, after better educating myself on the issues, I believe it is important for me to make clear my support for the rights of women, the LGBTQ community and freedom of expression.” The concert was originally scheduled for July 18.
