‘My 600-lb Life’: Man Stopped His 660-Pound Wife From Losing Weight
Bettie Jo was featured on this past season’s My 600-lb Life — clocking in at a whopping 660 pounds.
Since her appearance on the TLC reality series, the extremely unhealthy and obese 24-year-old underwent bariatric surgery and has dropped more than 150 pounds. But surprisingly, her husband, Josh, wasn’t on board with her losing weight. In fact, he sabotaged her journey early on.

Bettie Jo, who hails from Houston, Texas, explains after she woke up from surgery, her loved one was nowhere to be found — and that frightened her.
“It made me a little scared because I needed him more than ever. I knew if I didn’t have his support. I wouldn’t be able to do this,” she said. “The first month went but it wasn’t as easy as I’d hoped. Josh was preparing my meals and didn’t necessarily want to follow the doctor’s instructions.”

But right after the procedure, doctors noticed the young woman wasn’t shedding weight. It turns out Josh had been feeding her to keep her plump.
“I used to take care of her but when she started being able to move around herself after the surgery that really scared me because. I don’t want her to leave me. She’s the only woman I’ve ever loved,” said Josh, who often assisted Bettie Jo to the bathroom, powdered her rolls and even bathed her.
Realizing she’d end up dying if she continued to excessively consume food, Bettie Jo took control of her life and now weighs 498 pounds.
“Josh and I had never been on a date. I’ve always been so big I could never really go out. And so thankfully this process has show me just how much I love him — and how much he loves me. I feel like a different person,” she says. “I have a long way to go but I now know I can do it because I have Josh. And I have hope for the first time in a long while.”
