So much yes! Miley Cyrus looked incredible at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 30, while wearing a black, sheer dress on the red carpet. The “Midnight Sky” singer not only performed at the 2020 VMAs, but she was also nominated in the Editing and Art Direction categories for her “Mother’s Daughter” music video.

The “Wrecking Ball” artist’s see-through ensemble is from designer Thierry Mugler‘s fall 2020 collection. The strapless ankle-length gown was studded with small mirrored detailing. Miley, 27, accessorized the look with matching sheer gloves, bright red lipstick, hoop earrings and strappy sandals. The iconic designer also dressed Ariana Grande for the epic night.

Miley also wore a black dress with a sky-high slit for her performance of “Midnight Sky” later in the show. She rocked out on a simple stage, which featured a large staircase leading to a disco ball. At the end, the Last Song actress hopped on top of the orb and seemingly recreated her 2013 “Wrecking Ball” music video.

Miley’s latest track, “Midnight Sky,” which she released on August 14, is all about telling her own story. The former Disney kid explained her frustrations with seeing her love life plastered across headlines during an appearance on Barstool Sports’ “Call Her Daddy” podcast on the day her new single was released. Specifically, Miley reflected on her two-month-long relationship with The Hills: New Beginnings star Kaitlynn Carter on the heels of her split from husband Liam Hemsworth in August 2019.

“It’s unfair that someone taking a photo from a helicopter is allowed to control my narrative, but it feels below me, at that time, to engage in public opinion,” Miley told host Alex Cooper in reference to photos of her and Kaitlynn, 31, together in Italy at the time. “That’s why in the song it says, ‘I can’t bite the devil on my tongue.’ … It’s about, you know, some people have the devil and angel on their shoulder, the devil lives on my tongue. So, usually, I just lash out and say the first f—king thing that comes to mind, but it’s never benefitted me.”

The “Slide Away” singer noted the fling “made [her] really happy” and added, “There’s no handbook about how to deal with heartbreak.” Miley noticed “a gap between public perception and the truth” about her life. “I just think it’s really f—ked up that women are villainized for moving on,” she said.

The “Malibu” artist went on to date singer Cody Simpson the following October. However, Life & Style confirmed on August 13 that the two officially ended things after nearly a year together.

Miley looked happy and incredibly gorgeous at the VMAs. We can’t wait to see what the newly single starlet accomplishes next!
