So It Looks Like Michelle Duggar Didn’t Always Follow Her Family’s Strict Modest Dress Code
She had that red lip, classic thing that she no longer likes! In a recently resurfaced screen shot from the Duggars’ original TLC reality series, 19 Kids and Counting, matriarch Michelle Duggar is seen rocking bright red lipstick during a doctor’s appointment. Check it out in the video above!
Of course, as Counting On fans are well aware that Michelle, 51, now adheres to very conservative fashion rules — which never include bold cosmetics. In addition to hiding her skin underneath long skirts and sling-sleeved tops, Michelle normally rocks a fresh face without an ounce of makeup.
But, as you can see in the aforementioned photo, Michelle has taken a style risk or two in her life. “When I was young, I probably didn’t really think a whole lot about the way that I dressed,” the religious mother-of-19 has admitted in the past.
Though she hardly ever rebels against her own set of clothing commandments, the same can’t be said for several of her relatively rebellious daughters. Following in the footsteps of her sisters Jill and Jinger, Jessa Duggar finally rocked a pair of pants earlier this month.
But when it comes to being an all-around feminist fashion pioneer, Jinger definitely wins. Not only does the reality star — who is currently pregnant and expecting baby No. 1 with husband Jeremy Vuolo — wear pants on the reg, she’s known to slay in sneakers, tank tops, and — OMG! — skirts that don’t cover her knees.
The Duggar girls previously opened up about why they once shied away from showing too much skin. “We do not dress modestly because we are ashamed of the body God has given us; quite the contrary. We realize that our body is a special gift from God and that He intends for it to be shared only with our future husband,” Jill, Jinger, Jessa, and Jana Duggar wrote in their 2014 book, Growing Up Duggar. “We avoid low-cut, cleavage-showing, gaping, or bare-shouldered tops; and when needed, we were an undershirt. We try to make it a habit to always cover the top of our shirt with our hand when we bend over. We don’t want to play the peek-a-boo game with our neckline.”
