Consider this food for thought: Lyle and Erik Menendez are both convicted murderers, and they’ve found multiple women who will marry them… And you can’t even get a text back! With the release of NBC’s new true crime series — Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders — and an A&E Special called The Menendez Murders: Erik Tells All, focused on the jailed brothers, many people have been wondering questions about the men who were found guilty of murdering their parents back in 1989. And one fact that seems to have surprised many fans is that — despite spending most of their lives in jail — Erik and Lyle have wives… Get to know the not-so-lucky ladies below!

Tammi Menendez (née Saccoman)

Erik and his now-wife Tammi first met in August 1997 after years of correspondence via letters to prison. They both described their connection as being love at first sight — and she and her daughter eventually moved to California to be closer to him. In a 2005 interview, she said she didn’t “set out” to have a relationship with Erik, but that “something happened.” While the two aren’t allowed conjugal visits — they stay in touch with regular visits and 15-minute phone calls — she insisted that she got “emotional support” from her man.

In a recent interview, Erik said that his love for his wife motivates him to be a better person. “Tammi’s love has propelled me to become a better person. I want to be the greatest possible husband to her. And this affects the choices I make every day in prison,” he said. “Tammi has taught me how to be a good husband. There is no makeup sex, only a 15-minute phone call, so you really have to try to make things work.”

Rebecca Menendez (née Sneed)

Rebecca Sneed was working as a magazine editor when she first began corresponding via letters to Lyle. They went on to exchange vows in the visiting room of his state prison in 2003.

In an interview conducted earlier this year, Lyle admitted that he sometimes feels “guilty” for what she has to go through as his wife. He explained, “People are judgmental, and she has to put up with a lot. But she has the courage to deal with the obstacles. It would be easier to leave, but I’m profoundly grateful that she doesn’t.”

Today, she works as a defense attorney. Perhaps her career change was inspired by her husband?!

Anna Eriksson

It turns out that Rebecca isn’t Lyle’s first wife! On the season finale of Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders, we saw Kyle marry the beautiful Anna Eriksson. Sadly, the model divorced him after learning he had letter correspondence with other women. Two years later, he married Rebecca and they’ve been together ever since.
