It’s over! Matt Lauer and wife Annette Roque have officially begun the divorce process. The former Today show anchor has been on shaky ground with the former model ever since news of his sexual harassment allegations broke last year. Any attempts he made to patch things up with his wife apparently fell through because Us Weekly is reporting that the famous couple’s marriage is over.

“They’ve started the divorce process,” a source reveals of the pair, who are parents to Jack, 16, Romy, 14, and Thijs, 11. But, apparently, Matt is looking at the end of his union to Annette as a new beginning. “He thinks he can start fresh in both his personal and professional life.”

Their divorce doesn’t come as a shock because shortly after the allegations came out, it was reported that Annette had already lawyered up and kicked him out of their home in North Haven, NY. Last month, a source exclusively told In Touch that it was only a matter of time before the couple made their split official.

“Annette didn’t pull the trigger [on legal action] right away because of the kids, but she could no longer separate rumor from fact when it came to his sexual misdeeds and abuse of power. She’s done with him,” the insider revealed. “A divorce announcement should be coming any day now.”

As for the future? We can expect to see the broadcaster return to TV. “Matt knows it will take something really dramatic to change people’s opinion of him. An interview’s probably unwise, but he is desperate to be back on TV,” a source revealed. Hopefully, he meant the words in his public statement and is taking some much needed time to have some self-reflection.

“Repairing the damage will take a lot of time and soul searching and I’m committed to beginning that effort,” he wrote. “It is now my full-time job. The last two days have forced me to take a very hard look at my own troubling flaws. It’s been humbling. I am blessed to be surrounded by the people I love. I thank them for their patience and grace.”
