It’s been nearly 20 years since Mary Kay Letourneau was allowed to teach after seducing her 12-YEAR-OLD student Vili Fualaau when she was 34-years-old back in 1997.

Yes, she may have paid her debt to society with seven years behind bars for statutory rape and, yes, she and Vili have now been married for 10 years and have two children — but she’ll likely find it more than a bit difficult to find the backing she needs to achieve her current goal: a return to teaching.

Speaking to Barbara Walters on the eve of her and Vili’s 10th wedding anniversary on Friday night, Mary Kay revealed she believes she should be taken off the sex offender’s register and be allowed to teach again.

“Recently I said, ‘It’s been 10 years, why don’t I lift that?'” she said in the interview. “There’s a process, there’s a form, you take it to court and then they grant it if it looks like it should be granted.”

The 53-year-old also says that because of her status, she wasn’t allowed to visit her ill teenage daughter in the hospital.

The couple also discussed their odd (and illegal) beginnings that ultimately landed Mary Kay in jail twice and Vili revealed he suffered from serious depression during their years apart.

These days, Vili is a DJ and Mary Kay supports him 100 percent — so much so that she even attended his “hot teacher” hosting gig and signed autographs for guests.
