It’s the end of an era. For as long as Marvel fans can remember, the comic company’s co-creator Stan Lee has been making hilarious cameos in all of the movies about the superheroes he created, from Avengers to Thor to Spiderman and beyond. Sadly, on Nov, 12 it was reported that the 95-year-old had passed away. His official cause of death is still unclear, but he had reportedly suffered from vision issues and pneumonia in the last year. His wife Joan also passed away in 2017.
Stan’s last public appearance was at the Avengers: Infinity War premiere in April 2018. He appeared in good spirits, as always, though he rode around in a mobility scooter after apparently having trouble standing for long periods.
It’s clear that Stan will be sorely missed in Hollywood, with many of the stars of his movies quickly rushing to social media to honor him. Ryan Reynolds, who plays Deadpool, wrote, “Damn… RIP Stan. Thanks for everything.” Chris Evans, who plays Captain America, wrote, “There will never be another Stan Lee. For decades he provided both young and old with adventure, escape, comfort, confidence, inspiration, strength, friendship and joy. He exuded love and kindness and will leave an indelible mark on so, so, so many lives. Excelsior!!” Surely, Stan will continue inspiring creative people around the world, long after his death. To honor him, we put together some of his best quotes in the gallery below. RIP Stan.
