New details about Glee star Mark Salling’s plea deal in regards to his child pornography case have been revealed. According to TMZ, the 35-year-old injured himself in a suicide attempt just a month and a half before he accepted the terms of his plea deal.

TMZ reports that he slit in his own wrists in an attempt to take his life, and began to “freak out” and called for his roommate, who called the police. He was then reportedly rushed to the hospital, where he was taken in for a psychiatric evaluation and was later checked in to a rehab facility for “psychological issues.”

As In Touch previously reported, the actor pleaded guilty to charges of child pornography, which stemmed from a 2015 arrest that was made after a search warrant unearthed thousands of illegal images of minors on his personal computer. Per the terms of his plea deal, he will have to register as a sex offender as well as serve between four and seven years behind bars. He will also be banned from communicating with minors (unless he’s the minor’s parent or guardian). He has also been ordered to avoid schoolyards, arcades, parks, public swimming pools, and playgrounds, was instructed to complete a sex offender treatment program, and will be required to pay $50,000 to each victim who requests it.

Shortly after TMZ reported the details of Mark’s alleged suicide attempt — including claims that he has opted for long sleeves because he has scars on his wrists — his lawyer spoke out, denying the story (though TMZ reports that they neglected to mention which elements of the story are incorrect). In a statement, his lawyer told the site, “Mark is physically fine and Mark is spending his time atoning and working on himself.”
