Maci Bookout Opens up About Baby Maverick’s Health Issues

In excerpts from her upcoming memoir, I Wasn’t Born Bulletproof — obtained by Radar Online — the mom-of-three, 25, opens up about her youngest child, Maverick’s, health issues.
“Maverick, my third, had more issues with sleeping and was diagnosed with silent reflux,” she writes in her book. “It can easily be misinterpreted as fussiness because there are no visible symptoms other than inconsolable crying.”

According to WebMD, silent reflux occurs when the contents of the stomach backs up, similar to acid reflux, but it can be difficult to diagnose since the typical symptoms — like a burning sensation in one’s lower chest — may not occur. In addition, it’s common in infants.
Maci continues by saying it was so “frustrating” to watch her son, who will turn 1 this month, struggle without being able to help him.

“His pediatrician prescribed him medicine to reduce stomach acidity and help relieve the pain,” Mrs. McKinney explains. “But every time we gave it to him, he would push it out with his tongue or he would get so upset that he would throw the medicine right back up.”
Poor baby!
