As the saying goes, "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" and the chilling case of Lorena and John Bobbitt is most definitely proof of that! For those of who don't remember, Lorena stood trial in 1993 for cutting off her husband John's penis while he was asleep. She later threw the appendage out the window of a moving vehicle.

After the trial revelead a sordid history of domestic violence, infidelity, and emotional abuse, Lorena was eventually found not guilty due to reasons of insanity. As for John's injury, law enforcement was able to locate the severed penis and after a nine hour procedure, it was reattached.

Now, Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele — of Get Out fame — is bringing the Bobbitt trial back to life in a new four-part docu-series on Amazon. The description provided by Amazon paints a riveting picture, "25 years later, Lorena is a groundbreaking re-investigation of the deep moral issues and painful human tragedies buried at the heart of this infamous American scandal. Lost in the tabloid coverage and jokes was the opportunity for a national discussion on domestic and sexual assault in America.”

Given the directorial success of Get Out — boasting a 99-percent score on Rotten Tomatoes true crime fans are likely to be pleased with Peele's participation on this project. In an interview with Deadline, he explained, "When we hear the name ‘Bobbitt’ we think of one of the most sensational incidents to ever be catapulted into a full-blown media spectacle. With this project, Lorena has a platform to tell her truth as well as engage in a critical conversation about gender dynamics, abuse, and her demand for justice. This is Lorena’s story and we’re honored to help her tell it.”
