The 911 call regarding Liam Payne revealed that the One Direction alum allegedly had “drugs and alcohol” in his system before his death.
An employee at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, claimed that Liam “overindulged on drugs and alcohol” prior to his death on Wednesday, October 16, according to audio obtained via local media by Telemundo.
“Well, when he is conscious he breaks, he is breaking the whole room,” the employee told the 911 dispatcher. “Well, we need you to send someone, please.”
After stating that the police were needed “urgently,” the staff member explained that they believed the guest was at risk. “The guest is in a room that has a balcony and, well, we are a little afraid that he might do something life-threatening,” the caller said.
The hotel employee said they work as the head of reception and did not reveal the identity of the troubled guest, though explained that the guest had been there for two or three days.
Liam died at the age of 31 after he fell off the third floor balcony at the hotel, In Touch confirmed. Despite making the 911 call when Liam was alive, the “Night Changes” singer was already dead in the internal courtyard by the time authorities arrived.
“There was no possibility of resuscitating him,” the authorities said about Liam. “He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall.”
Alberto Crescenti, the Buenos Aires emergency services chief, confirmed that he died from “very serious injuries” that he sustained in the fall. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death,” Crescenti explained, per The Sun.
While many fans rushed to social media to pay tribute to the “What Makes You Beautiful” singer immediately after his death made headlines, his family issued a statement one day later on Thursday, October 17. “We are utterly devastated by the news,” an unnamed family member told The Daily Mail. “We are heartbroken.”

“Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul,” the statement continued. “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
Liam rose to fame in 2010 when he auditioned as a solo artist on The X Factor. He eventually formed One Direction with Harry Style, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, and he remained with the band until they went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
“It was a little bit dark and twisted towards the end of it,” Liam previously told The Guardian while reflecting on the band’s split in 2019. “But the last few shows were really beautiful moments because the pressure cooker had been let off.”
The father of one – who shared one son, Bear, with ex Cheryl Cole – went on to pursue a solo career, and he released his debut solo studio album, LP1, in 2019. Liam also released the extended plays First Time in 2018 and Midnight Hour with Alesso in 2020.
