‘Teen Mom 2’ Star Leah Messer Says Women Should Put Their Husbands First — and Fans Are Not Having It

That didn’t go over well. Leah Messer took to social media on Saturday, July 22, to share her rather antiquated thoughts about love and marriage. The twice-divorced Teen Mom 2 star, 25, posted a quote from the @gentlewomenhood Instagram account, which stated: “Ladies, in marriage your husband comes first, then your child,” which she captioned, “I agree, What do y'all think?”

Well, it turns out that most of Leah’s 1.4 million followers were not on board with her message, which went on to say that in a marriage, the man “comes first as your partner, provider, and protector.”

Fans wasted no time firing back at the MTV personality, who shares seven-year-old twins Ali and Aleeah with ex-husband No. 1 Corey Simms, and daughter Adalynn, 4, with ex-husband No. 2 Jeremy Calvert. Not surprisingly, Leah was slammed for suggesting that a guy should take precedence over a mother’s kids.

“I liked this photo and then I unliked it. My man is horrible and even if my man was amazing, my kids will forever and always be number one. Sorry to whoever disagrees but you can get divorced but those kids…will always be your kids,” one angry Instagram user wrote, while one fumed, “You are not sending a good message to your children!! If I ran myself into the ground to be a perfect little wifey, I would be an inadequate mother. I'm not religious but I respect the good morals that come with faith. But I also believe it brings forth some backward thinking like this ridiculous post.”

Another echoed the idea that one’s children should always be put before one’s spouse. “Caring for them should be the first priority of the mother AND the father. A close second is the nurturing of the marriage. I'm not for putting the burden of marriage and children on the woman and having her choose between her children and her husband,” a fan wrote. “If the husband doesn't feel he can deal with his child's needs coming before his own, they shouldn't have children!”

Leah has yet to respond to the criticism. Her post comes just weeks after she addressed rumors she was dating a new guy — who ended up being her daughters’ cheerleading coach Brian Gravely. “I don't think Brian's HUSBAND would be pleased if Brian was my mystery man!?‍♀️?,” she tweeted on July 12.
