No matter what, Leah Messer will fight for her daughter, Ali. The Teen Mom 2 star recently opened up about her daughter’s struggle with muscular dystrophy on a recent episode of the show. The 25-year-old mom explained how Ali’s disease — which causes progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass — has caused her to need an aid in school.

“She had mentioned to us that she hadn’t been eating at school and that she was falling a lot,” Leah told her sister Victoria. “She needs somebody with her, by her side, at all times. I’m fighting for Ali — I’m going to do everything that she needs to be done. We wanted her to be independent, and at the same time things are becoming progressive.”

In an earlier episode of the show, Leah’s ex and Ali’s father, Corey Simms, called to tell her that he was taking their daughter to the hospital because she was experiencing difficulty breathing. “The reason I am calling is because Ali is having a hard time catching her breath and I think I need to take her to the emergency room because she says she couldn’t breathe. She’s fine… I think it’s a little scarier for us. But we’d rather be safe than sorry.”

Along with her daughter’s difficulty breathing, Ali’s teachers informed Leah that she was falling frequently in class and having trouble eating. The MD was causing Ali to have difficulty opening her lunch and therefore not having enough time to eat.

After hearing that, Leah made the difficult decision of deciding to hire an aid to be at Ali’s side at all times. During the episode, she broke the news to her daughter. “Whenever you’re at lunch and you’re going to eat, you’ll have somebody who’ll open your food.” We hope this helps Ali in her day-to-day life — we’re rooting for Leah’s family.
