Shorty after it was alleged that fellow inmate Kyle Kennedy was the late Aaron Hernandez’s “gay prison lover,” the 22-year-old has broken his silence on the NFL star’s death.

“I miss my friend Aaron Hernandez,” he said in a statement. “I’d like to send my condolences to his fiancée, his mother, and his daughter.”

News of his alleged “gay lover” came after it was reported that he left behind a letter for his jailhouse companion, as well as letters for his mother, daughter, and fiancée after allegedly taking his own life.

Shortly after the news surfaced, Kyle was identified as Aaron’s rumored partner; Kyle’s lawyer, Larry Army Jr., has confirmed that his client was the recipient of one of the rumored letters, while Aaron’s lawyer, Jose Baez, has denied the claims, stating, “rumors of letters to a gay lover, in or out of prison, are false.”

“He’s definitely never made any mention of [having a lover].” she told In Touch exclusively. “No, he would just always say, ‘I’m fine.’ He would always say that he kept to himself so I don’t really know how true that was or if he just wanted us to know that he was ok. I don’t know.”
