Shorty after it was alleged that fellow inmate Kyle Kennedy was the late Aaron Hernandez’s “gay prison lover,” the 22-year-old has broken his silence on the NFL star’s death.
“I miss my friend Aaron Hernandez,” he said in a statement. “I’d like to send my condolences to his fiancée, his mother, and his daughter.”
News of his alleged “gay lover” came after it was reported that he left behind a letter for his jailhouse companion, as well as letters for his mother, daughter, and fiancée after allegedly taking his own life.
Shortly after the news surfaced, Kyle was identified as Aaron’s rumored partner; Kyle’s lawyer, Larry Army Jr., has confirmed that his client was the recipient of one of the rumored letters, while Aaron’s lawyer, Jose Baez, has denied the claims, stating, “rumors of letters to a gay lover, in or out of prison, are false.”
So who is Kyle Kennedy? The 22-year-old Massachusetts native has a colorful rap sheet — which includes a 2012 arrest on heroin, burglary, and larceny charges; later, in 2015, he was arrested for speeding and involvement with an alleged armed robbery.
He has a profile on a Write-a-Prisoner, which is a website that connects prisoners with pen-pals across the globe; in his profile, he says he “signed up for this website so [he] can correspond and possibly build friendships with people from around the world.”
“I work out, read books, and write to help me pass the time while incarcerated,” he writes in his profile. “My hobbies on the street include racing motocross, building and customizing cars and motorcycles, and doing anything that includes the outdoors.”
When In Touch spoke to Aaron’s first cousin Davina, she said that he had never mentioned having a lover while locked up.
“He’s definitely never made any mention of [having a lover].” she told In Touch exclusively. “No, he would just always say, ‘I’m fine.’ He would always say that he kept to himself so I don’t really know how true that was or if he just wanted us to know that he was ok. I don’t know.”
