Kate Middleton Makes Surprise Return to Public Work in 1st Appearance Since Ending Chemotherapy

Princess Kate Middleton returned to her official duties as Princess of Wales alongside husband Prince William one month after announcing she ended her preventative chemotherapy treatments.

The royal couple privately visited the victims of the fatal Southport, England, stabbings that occurred on July 30 at a Taylor Swift-themed yoga and dance class, according to the Mirror.

William, 42, was scheduled to make the Thursday, October 10, appearance by himself, but Kate, 42, muscled up the strength to accompany him, the outlet reported.

On July 30, a 17-year-old boy entered the fitness class and stabbed the victims inside the event. Three young girls died in the tragic attack and more than 12 other victims were severely injured. Kate and William spent quality time with two young victims and the studio’s dance teacher Leanne Lucas. First responders and officials who helped save the victims’ lives were also at the meeting and engaged in an emotional conversation as they reflected on the horrific day.

“I can’t underestimate how grateful they all are for the support you provided on the day. On behalf of them, thank you,” Kate told the first responders of the families of the deceased victims, per the Mirror.

Kate gave an update on the late victims’ families, sharing that they are “OK” and managing their losses “differently.”

“All the families are so different. Individually, too, they are managing it and processing this tragic event in very different ways but they’re getting support from families and officers and things like that,” she explained. “I think being able to have opportunities to be able to speak to different people in the community about the experience and drawing that together and sharing their experience, I think, is massively helpful.”

Kate properly rested and stepped back from her royal duties after she announced she was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer in March. Not only did William step up to make sure Kate was recovering in peace, but so did their kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“[The kids] are following some new rules, like picking up after themselves and making their own snacks, but also making sure to wash their hands more often because Kate can’t be exposed to germs while she’s going through chemo,” a source exclusively told In Touch in April. “George, who has always been wiser than his years, has been a real role model, especially to Charlotte. And she loves keeping Louis in line!” (At an event last year, William joked that Charlotte was always “making sure her little brother behaved himself.”)

Weeks after announcing the end of her chemo treatment, Kate made her first public appearance at Windsor Castle with collaborators to plan her early years childhood project on September 17. Five days later, Kate was spotted with William, King Charles and Queen Camilla as they attended a Sunday service at Crathie Kirk.

Kate and Charles bonded this year due to unfortunate health circumstances. One month before the Princess of Wales announced she had cancer, Charles, 75, announced that he was also battling an unspecified type of cancer.

“Not a day goes by that Kate doesn’t check in on Charles with some type of gesture, whether it’s just a few words of comfort, a care package or supportive call if she’s too busy to see him in person,” a second insider exclusively told In Touch in a story published on September 18.
