RIP. Justin Theroux revealed on Instagram that his beloved dog named Dolly — whom he shared with his ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston — passed away. “Tonight, at sunset, after a heroic struggle … our most loyal family member and protector, Dolly A., laid down her sword and shield,” the 47-year-old actor captioned a few photos from the dog’s funeral where she was laying on a white blanket. “She was surrounded by her entire family. ‘The one that never deserts, the one that never proves ungrateful … is the dog — faithful and true, even in death.’ -George Vest. Rest In Peace, Dolly. #AdoptDontShop #RescueDog.”

One of the former couple’s other dogs, a terrier named Clyde, had his nose visible in the photos while another shot showed two people holding hands over Dolly’s body. Of course, many fans speculated that Jen reunited with Justin for this sad occasion.

Naturally, social media users couldn’t help but show Justin and Jen some love. One person wrote, “I’m sorry for your and Jennifer’s loss. She was a beautiful dog. Glad you could both be there for Dolly,” while another echoed, “Oh man. This is the saddest/most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Sorry for your loss, x.” A third chimed in, writing, “Aw no! I can’t believe it. Absolutely heartbroken for you and Jen! She has now crossed the rainbow bridge and will look down on you both. Love you guys! Xx.”

The former flames called it quits in February 2018 after less than three years of marriage. “We are two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship,” they said at the time.

In December, the 50-year-old Friends alum revealed the story behind the dog’s moniker — whom she named after Dolly Parton — and at first, the country star didn’t know how to respond. “It kinda came out that she was like, I know when [Jennifer] said, you know, ‘I named my dog Dolly after you,’ I don’t know how I felt about that,” Jennifer recalled Dolly admitting during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “And I was like, ‘Oh, God. I’ve insulted her.’”

Jennifer continued to tell the host, “Then the interview said, ‘Would you now, Dolly, get a dog and name it Jennifer?’ And I said, ‘Well, that’s so not a dog name.’ I mean, I’ve never met a dog named Jennifer. So, I guess I slighted offended her. I just think it’s cute. She’s so sweet. It’s not like a sloth.”

We are thinking of Jen and Justin during this difficult time.
