Uh, what the heck is going on with Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin? When we first saw the “Love Yourself” singer’s Instagram post from April 1, where he posted a picture of a sonogram, we thought for sure it was an April Fools’ Day prank. A second post, this time showing pictures of his model wife seemingly having her belly looked at by doctors, made it seem like the news just might be real. But a third post finally cleared the air as the Biebs shared that it was all, in fact, just one big joke.

Skeptics pretty much dismissed the singer’s first post. It certainly didn’t help that Haily, Hailey, 22, commented, “Very funny,” seemingly giving the whole thing away fright from the start. But some other celebrities couldn’t quite tell if they were being serious or not. Patrick Schwarzenegger teased, “Is [the baby] doing a sit up?” Others wished the couple congratulations. However, it didn’t take long for internet sleuths to realize the sonogram that Justin, 25, posted is one of the first few results on Google Images for both the word “sonogram” and “ultrasound.”

But only a few minutes later, Justin followed up the sonogram with another post — this one an album of Hailey getting some kind of checkup in a hospital bed. “If [you] thought it was April Fools’,” he wrote, hinting that the situation was getting serious. And that’s about when fans started to flip. “Get THE F–K outtttttt,” demanded one commenter. “This BETTER be a f–king joke,” wrote another. A third weighed in with, “It definitely still is … there is no way 😮.”

In the photos, it kind of looks like Hailey might actually have a bump — but it’s also possible that everyone touching her belly just makes it seem like she has a bump. Considering the fact that there’s also an IV hanging up in the room, she may have been at the doctor’s office for some other health reason that required them to check out her abdomen. Hailey’s own Instagram account isn’t offering any clues. It does look like she deleted her “very funny” comment, but it’s hard to know whether she’s playing along with the joke or if she just thought Justin posting a sonogram that wasn’t her real one that’s funny.

If U thought it was April fools

Of course, the couple should all the rumors down when Justin posted a second sonogram. And this time, it was just a picture of a puppy photoshopped over the ultrasound image. “Wait omg is that a,,, APRIL FOOLS’,” he captioned the photo, clearly pretty proud of the prank he’d managed to pull off. “I freaking knew it man,” commented one fan. “That isn’t funny 👌🏾,” wrote another as more added emojis that were crying or rolling their eyes. Some fans seemed completely over the emotional roller coaster, simply writing, “OK.”

On Twitter, though, the fallout was real. Some fans were already getting their hopes up for a Bieber baby. And among those fans was Spencer Pratt, who was ready for his pal to become a dad, too. “Don’t play with my heart, Biebs,” Spencer wrote on Twitter with a screenshot of the Instagram post. Now, however, the couple is also getting dragged for the joke. “Sorry, but that was really f–king insensitive of Justin Bieber,” commented one Twitter user. “So many people can’t have kids, and it’s not really something to joke about, is it?” Another agreed, writing, “Not to sound like a bore, but Justin Bieber doing an April Fools’ about Hailey being pregnant isn’t funny at all. It’s just immature and offensive to people who can’t even have children.”

The hate just kept coming. “Can’t only be me who thinks it’s bloody disgusting that Justin and Hailey Bieber lied about being pregnant????” another Twitter user wrote. “Every single year, someone does this prank [and] we call them out for being s–t, yet because it’s a huge celeb we’re just gonna let it slide [and] laugh????” Fans seemed extra upset by the fact that it wasn’t just the one post. The second seemed like they could really have been at a pregnancy check-up. It didn’t help that, just one week before the April 1st “announcement,” the singer had been posting about fatherhood.

“I am now very focused on repairing some of the deep-rooted issues that I have as most of us have, so that I don’t fall apart, so that I can sustain my marriage and be the father I want to be,” he wrote on March 25. “Music is very important to me but nothing comes before my family and my health.” A source also recently spilled to Life & Style that the couple wants “four or more” kids. We’re sure they’ll be sharing a very real pregnancy announcement one day — but for now, it’s still just a joke. And not everyone is laughing.
