Home for the holidays! Jon Gosselin is going all out this year after being awarded temporary sole custody of his 14-year-old son, Collin. According to the father, it’s his first major holiday with any of his kids in a while — and he couldn’t be more excited to celebrate. Of course, he’ll be missing his six other kids, but having Collin around now that he’s been released from his treatment center, plus his sister Hannah, is at least a pretty good start.

“I never had major holidays with my kids,” the former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star told Life & Style Magazine at WE tv’s Real Love: Relationship Reality TV’s Past, Present & Future panel on Dec. 11 in LA. “I always shared it with Kate and got them after the fact.”

But that all changed when Jon, 41, filed for full custody of Collin after Kate Gosselin, 43, sent him away to live in a facility for kids with special needs in 2015. The mother-of-eight has had primary custody of the couple’s twins and sextuplets since their nasty 2009 split, but Jon has been scoring some major wins lately. Earlier this year, he shared on Instagram that Hannah “permanently lives” with him, hinting that he has full custody of his daughter. And on Dec. 4, a judge ruled in his favor when it came to temporary custody of Collin.

“We’re trying to create new traditions that are ours,” reveals Jon about how he and two of his 14-year-old sextuplets are spending the holidays. “We started with the tree. The kids are doing their lists on Giftster. But it’s different for Collin because he really hasn’t asked for stuff in a couple of years. He says, ‘I don’t know what a 14-year-old boy wants.'”

One thing the father-of-eight would like for Christmas, though? A reconciliation with the rest of his children. “There is no co-parenting with Kate,” Jon admits about his tumultuous relationship with his ex. “It’s Hannah and Collin at my house and the rest at hers.” He’s also trying to respect his kids’ boundaries while still letting them know he loves them. “It’s hard to reach out to people that don’t want to talk to you,” Jon says. “If I knew they wanted to talk to me, then I’d be reaching out more!”
