She had a choice to make. On the Tuesday, October 22 episode of Counting On, Jinger Duggar gets candid about her decision to start wearing pants, despite the fact that all of the Duggar girls were raised by their parents — Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar — to only wear skirts and dresses.

On the episode, Jinger, 25, and her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, take a hike to the Hollywood sign in their new home city of Los Angeles, California. A producer asks the reality star after some footage from the walk is shown, “We noticed on the hike that you were wearing pants. Tell us about that.” Jinger replies, “I chose to wear pants for the hike. We were gonna be going down some steep hills and so I thought it would be best to wear pants.”

But what does her mother think about that decision? “We had conversations before I started wearing pants and just shared my heart with them and where I saw the Lord leading me,” Jinger explains. “I was really grateful for their response.” She said her parents taught them to always “seek to honor God” and “maintain modesty” and that in the end, that’s all that really mattered. “I’m really grateful for their hearts and how they’ve just instilled that in us kids,” she said.

“My parents always raised us just to honor Christ in everything that we do,” Jinger says. As for wearing pants, “That’s where the Lord’s led me as of now.”

“It’s OK that my kids may have different convictions than me,” Michelle, 53, adds. “I know that He’s leading them. And that’s the most important thing, is their walk, their relationship with God.”

The 19 Kids and Counting mom also talks about her choice to only wear skirts and dresses, which she reveals happened after she was “saved” at age 15. As for having her daughters do the same, Michelle said, “I just dressed them in dresses and skirts as well. Being that that was my personal conviction. I think that part of it was more of, you know, mama’s the mama and I’m raising my girls to be modest and honor the Lord and how they represent themselves.”

These days, Jinger is not the only Duggar daughter who’s donned pantsJessa, Jill and Joy have all been spotted in them at least once. It will be interesting to see what some of their younger sisters choose to do when they’re older.
