He meant well? Michelle Duggar turned 51 this week, so obviously, her husband, Jim Bob Duggar, paid tribute to his wife in honor of her special day. The Counting On patriarch, 52, decided that he would film a video alongside his spouse, letting her know how much she means to him.

In the YouTube video, posted on Wednesday, Sept. 13, Jim Bob says some really nice things about Michelle. “Michelle, I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. You are such a great wife, a great mother,” he tells her. “I just love you so much and I’m so thankful for you. We’ve had a wonderful 33 years together so far, and looking forward to the next 33 years. And so I just want to tell you happy birthday. And I’m just in love with ya!”

Michelle seems touched by Jim Bob’s sentiments, but her expression quickly turns from happy to shocked AF when her hubby swoops in for an unexpected smooch. He dips her, and she laughs before she is eventually able to break free from their lip-lock. Honestly, we’ve never witnessed anything more cringeworthy. What happened to side-hugs, guys?!

Regardless of Jim Bob’s surprising, on-camera advance, Michelle puts on a good face and pretends like she enjoyed it. (Maybe she did, but that’d be hard to believe.) “Thank you, sweetheart. I love you, too,” Michelle says in the clip, to which Jim Bob responds, “That’s my birthday gift!” The mother-of-19 then says, “It’s definitely a happy birthday.” But is it, girl?

Thankfully, several of Michelle’s children posted birthday tributes that were way less awkward — including Jessa Duggar, who explained in an open letter why she is so grateful for her mom. “Your love for us has been verbalized and lived out. Thank you for all the hugs and kisses, for saying ‘I love you,’ and for speaking words of affirmation into our lives,” Jessa, 24, wrote. “You have pursued our hearts, and you have earned our deepest respect and admiration with your gentle, loving heart.”
