Oh Jill Duggar, you never cease to amaze and confuse us. While many of her recipes are wildly unhealthy, stolen, or just plain gross-looking, on June 24 the former Counting On star posted a hack for root beer floats that could actually prove useful, and it involved cutting the ice cream instead of scooping it!

“I’m making ice cream floats the way our mom used to make them,” said Jill in a new video called Duggar Family Comes Over. “We get our ice cream from Aldi’s like this, in a block, and then my mom would cut it, put it in a cup, and put some root beer with it.” As she spoke, Jill used a large knife to cut the ice cream into identical blocks after ripping the cardboard box open.

Apparently we’re not the only ones surprised to see it done like that. “I’ve never seen ice cream done that way,” said husband Derick Dillard in the background. “You’ve told me about it but now it’s cool I get to witness it myself!” To be honest, if you’re serving ice cream for a party or a large group of people, Jill’s way really does seem easier and more convenient.

“Thanks for sharing, I have not thought of this,” said a fan on Jill’s Instagram page. Another agreed, “Maybe it’s a southern thing. I grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and we also served our ice cream like this! I usually buy it in a round carton now, but will buy it in the square like this when I make ice cream sandwiches.” Of course, Jill doesn’t post anything without backlash, so there was still some criticism (besides the angry comments about Derick’s most recent attack on Jazz Jennings). “So scooping ice cream is considered a ‘recipe’??” said an unconvinced follower. Recipe or not, at least this time it’s something we would totally eat!
