Despite the fact that head matriarch of the Duggar family, Michelle Duggar, is known for having extremely antiquated views on marriage, her daughter Jessa Duggar is surprisingly the opposite. In a recent interview with Us Weekly, the mother-of-two shared her go-to marriage advice and it was refreshingly insightful. Beyond that, it’s perfect for young couples looking to keep their romance alive even after they have kids.

“Having alone time when you have two young kids doesn’t just happen,” Jessa told the publication. “We have to be purposeful.” Whether it’s ordering takeout after her sons, Spurgeon and Henry, have gone to bed or sharing a couple pints of ice cream, Jessa and her hubby, Ben Seewald, know how to enjoy the simple pleasures in life without even having to leave their humble abode.

“It’s great because our conversations can go long and you’re not on a time-clock with a babysitter or wondering if the baby’s bedtime routine went smoothly,” she explained. “It’s a good fit for us at this time in our lives.”

Beyond just making time for your spouse, Jessa stressed the importance of gratitude. “Never stop showing gratitude to your spouse for all the things they do to help out,” the Counting On star revealed. “It doesn’t matter how big or small. Sometimes couples come to expect things of each other and they stop noticing and appreciating things the other one does to help out with the kids or keep the household running smoothly.”

With two children under two years old, Jessa continued by offering a (smelly) example that happens in her house quite a bit. “If your spouse volunteered to change nastiest, stinky diaper or you saw them jump up quickly to clean up a spill, make it a habit to express gratefulness and say, ‘Thank you for doing that,'” the 25-year-old expressed.

Well, it sure sounds like Jessa and Ben have this whole marriage thing figured out. We can’t wait to see their life together continue to unfold on their hit TLC series. The new season of Counting On premieres on TLC on Monday, July 30, at 9 p.m. ET.
