Jenni Duggar Always Looks Sad in Pictures, Could She Break Free?

Shout out to Jennifer Duggar, one of the few Little Kids in the family who definitely keeps it real…and is decidedly OVER her ridiculous family. When she’s not getting frightened or crying over the loss of a sister-mom who’s getting married, she’s, as Michelle gently puts it, “serious and stoic.” She hardly cracks a smile. And like, yeah, because despite her youth, Jenni is probably wise to the fact that she’s being raised in what’s basically a cult. And with that stoic, smile-free face, we believe she could have her escape already planned out.

Now previously on Counting On One of the Duggar Kids to Make a Break For It, I made a case that ever-neglected Jordyn Duggar is most likely to leave given how much she hates Michelle. I’d still vouch that the lack of loyalty is going to have her heading for the hills as soon as she turns 18. Yet if it’s not going to be Jordyn, then it’s 110% going to be Jenni, because all I see when I look into her eyes is the desire to ditch this family.

Of course, it could just be that her personality is, you know, serious and stoic. Yet if you need more proof, scroll down as we make a case for the strained face of one Jennifer Duggar.

Like Jordyn, she’s easy to overlook because of her precarious placement in the Duggar line-up.

“Miracle baby” Josie is the one Little Kid who actually gets consistent love and praise. Jenni is third to last, which means she’s, what? Maybe slightly higher-ranking than Jordyn? And oh, you could argue that those homogeneous looking younger brothers often get lost in the mix, it is hard to tell the difference between a Justin and a James. Nevertheless, history has shown that it is forever better to be a Duggar boy than a Duggar girl, even if it’s just because of the nominal freedom guys are given.

As a kid, Jenni was marked as the “emotional” one and that’s rough in a family that, you know, suppresses emotions.

Quick to cry, Jennifer was occasionally seen by fans as being a little whiny. I can’t imagine, however, it must feel to be introverted or sensitive or in a cramped home filled to the brim with people. I don’t know how it would feel to watch your parental figures (Jill, who we’ll get to, and to a lesser extent Joy-Anna) abandon you for their own lives. And it must be disorienting to be scared, sad, and confused when everyone around you was taught to smile through every trial and tribulation. She has every right to be emotional, she was born into a disaster zone.

She’s even developed a slight tone for sass…and a penchant for monotone.

We appreciate the lightly shady asides, like how she summed up Jinger’s nuptials. “Jinger’s getting married of course,” she says, knowing there are little other options out their for a Duggar woman. She gives a flat “Yeah” when Jackson asks if she’s excited, and then says, “But it’s the most strangest wedding in the world, ’cause Josie’s wearing lights on her head.” Maybe she’s also a little jealous that her baby sister got to wear a light crown, but that’s what happens when you’re a non-Josie Duggar kid.

Honestly, she’s always been closer to Jill than her parents, so there’s less incentive to stick around.

It’s important to note that Jill, not Michelle, was the person Jenni would go to when she was crying. And look, Jilly Muffin is far from being my favorite Duggar kid, but she was really close with her Buddy Team (Joy-Anna, Justin, and Jenni). She even brought them to her ultrasound when she was pregnant with Izzy. “This baby will be a new member of our Buddy Team,” Jenni says as I sob into my keyboard. So yeah, Jenni really took Jill’s departure the hardest, and even though they’re still close, it must be hard to lose a sister-mom like that. Jana’s great and all, but it’s not the same.

And the relationship she has with Michelle may be troubling, considering the video that sparked claims of “abuse.”

ICYMI, Derick Dillard was filming a Instagram live when he captured Michelle in the background berating Jenni, who looks noticeably tense. If you look a little closer at the video, it even seems like she recoils into a chair, it’s really strange. Once Michelle realizes she’s on camera, she slips back into being the soft-spoken Godly mother we all (“we” meaning Jim Bob) love so dearly.
Now, there really isn’t enough hard evidence to assume Jenni or the other little Duggars are getting hurt. But redditors spotted a million red flags considering how quickly Michelle snapped back into her saccharine persona once she realized she was being filmed. They winced noticing Jenni’s expression after being caught: upset and a little embarrassed. If nothing else, this reveals two dark things about the Duggar family, that A. Michelle is not as docile and kind as she pretends to be and B. Jenni has definitely seen that.

Jenni has quasi-legitimate careers goals, and that’s going to require, you know, college.

Jenni loves animals — that’s her chilling with her guinea pig Nibbles — and has dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian. The Duggars seem to be condescendingly into this idea, like they’re proud of her being a Pet Mom to Nibbles because it’s good prep for the career goal they have planned for her. That is, Actual Mom. So if she wants to help critters get better for a living, she needs to get out of there or have her dreams die unceremoniously like her older siblings’ dreams did. Remember when Jessa wanted to be a beautician?
