The title of Jenelle Evans' new memoir, Read Between the Lines: From the Diary of a Teenage Mom is only half true — after all, there's no need to actually read between the lines! The always blunt Teen Mom 2 star opened up about her troubled past, including the difficulties growing up with a brother who was "developmentally challenged."
In 2000, her then nine-year-old brother, Colin, set his toy car on fire and tossed it on the bed, accidentally sending their family home up in flames. "It took us a few moments of confusion to figure out what in the hell he was going on about," the mom-of-three said, adding that he frantically ran down the stairs to interrupt a movie night and explain what happened. The family had to evacuate, and Jenelle's mom, Barbara, had reached her "breaking point." She added, "This … was too much for all of us."

As a result of that incident, Colin was sent to a group home for nearly two years. Looking back, however, Jenelle agreed that she would have done the same thing. "I don’t blame my mother for sending him away like that,” she wrote. “It is a hard decision, yet I would’ve done the same."
In an interview with People, Barbara, 64, said that the decision to place him in a home wasn't easy but it had to be done. "I had to do what I had to do because he could not live in that house, he was dangerous," she said. "He burnt my house down when he was 10. We’d only been living in the residence for six months. Six months and he burnt the house down."
The relationship between Jenelle and Barbara has always been strained, so much so that the reality star mom didn't even invite her to her upcoming wedding. In a separate interview with the mag, Babs said, "She’s been saying she’s having her wedding, running around with her family of friends, but you know what she says? ‘My mother Barbara is not invited.' She’s not inviting me to her own wedding. It’s very painful."
The memoir also touched on Jenelle's brief relationship with her father. She wrote, "Robert Evans was only in my life for a little while. For that short and glorious time, I was daddy’s little girl. I loved and admired him. I still do in some way. Without warning everything changed, and my dad cut himself out of my life." Luckily, the 25-year-old now has a supportive fiancé by her side and three adorable children.
Teen Mom 2 airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on MTV.
