They may in the world of beauty — but things sure are getting ugly!

Fans freaked out when Jeffree Star and MannyMUA (aka Manny Guitierrez) announced their makeup collab, but it turns out there were some people who were less than thrilled with the news — the team behind Black Moon Cosmetics, who felt that the YouTube beauty gurus ripped off their design, which features a holographic crescent moon. The indie makeup company eventually hit back with a lawsuit, suing the two makeup gurus.

According to the complaint filed by BMC, their brand was “the first cosmetic company to use packaging incorporating a mark consisting of a holographic crescent moon on black packaging to distribute cosmetics products.”

As many outlets have noted, Manny has long used the crescent moon logo as his own, dating back to when he had his own collaboration with Makeup Geek.

While Black Moon initially fought for damages — including revenue from the sales of Jeffree’s collab with his best friend — as well as legal fees, it would appear that the competing makeup companies have since resolved the matter amicably.

“The issue has been resolved,” the two beauty gurus said in a joint statement to Cosmo. “The Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA collaboration will launch as planned on April 8. We are so grateful for the continued support of our fans and are excited to share this moment with them.”

For those unfamiliar with the upcoming project, Jeffree Star — a noted Internet personality and makeup professional — is also the brains behind his super successful makeup line, Jeffree Star Cosmetics, which currently offers a collection of lipsticks, highlighters, and two eye shadow palettes.

Last month, Jeffree announced that his brand would be doing their first collaboration with his long-time friend and Maybelline spokesperson Manny Gutierrez, which includes two liquid lipsticks — a burnt coral called “I’m Shook” and a cool-toned brown called “Daddy” — as well as a peachy champagne highlighter they dubbed, “Eclipse.”

The entire collection will be released and sold as a bundle and individually on JeffreeStarCosmetics.com starting April 8.
