Um, what did we just hear? Were those actual words coming out of little Jackson Roloff‘s mouth? Okay, it’s more like sounds than words exactly, but we distinctly heard him say “mama.” It seems like the tiniest Little People, Big World star is well on his way to learning how to talk, and it’s too cute. Mom Tori Roloff captured the whole thing on video, and she was generous enough to share it with us. They grow up so fast! Recently, Tori, 27, opened up about what her first few months as a mom were like way back before Jackson was even born. During a recent Q&A hosted on her Instagram, the reality star revealed that she and husband Zach Roloff discovered that their son had dwarfism when they were still just 34 weeks pregant. He inherited achondroplasia from his dad, just like Zach inherited it from his mom, Amy Roloff. When a fan asked how old Jackson was when the couple found out about his condition, Tori responded, “We actually found out when I was 34 weeks pregnant, but my doctor had a little more of a heads up than some parents.”

When it comes to dealing with the different challenges Jackson may face growing up, though, the couple is well equipped to handle anything. “You have to encourage a dwarf child a little more because it will take them five steps to do what others can do in two,” Zach, 28, explained. “But I knew, dwarf or not, I was going to parent my child with the mentality that not everyone gets a trophy. You have to earn it.”

Now that Jackson is one year old — he’ll be a year and a half in a little over a month — he’s hit some major milestones. Not only is he starting to say words, he also knows how old he is. He’s also walking, zooming around as he drags his toy wagon from grandma Amy behind him. He does still have some practice to do, though. “The friend sometimes has a hard time catching himself when he falls forward,” Tori explained when fans noticed a bruise on his head. “He’s got a big head… But we’re learning.” It’s clear he’s been learning a lot!
