Inside Kate Gosselin’s Milestone 50th Birthday After Stepping Away From the Public Eye: ‘Very Low-Key’

Kate Gosselin celebrated her milestone 50th birthday with a “few of her kids at home,” insiders exclusively told In Touch.

“Kate has stepped away from being in the public eye and she seems to be at peace with that,” a source said about how she rang in the special occasion on March 28. “It was very low-key.”

The former reality star, who rose to fame along with her family on Jon & Kate Plus 8, has remained largely out of the public eye since her TLC show ended in 2017.

“Kate’s embraced having a normal life. She went back into nursing and even though she sometimes misses the excitement, the glitz and glam of fame, she’s actually happier,” the source dished.

Kate did briefly have her own dating show, Kate Plus Date, which premiered in June 2019 and also appeared on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test in 2023 but has since enjoyed a more reclusive life away from the limelight.

As In Touch previously reported, Kate renewed her license as a registered nurse, which is valid until March 31, 2027. Her prior license was set to expire days after her birthday on March 31.

Kate obtained her registered nurse license in North Carolina in June 2021 years after working in the medical field when Jon & Kate Plus 8 aired back in 2007.

Jon Gosselin, 48, and Kate divorced in December 2009 but were embroiled in a long custody battle until their youngest kids turned 18.

Kate relocated from Pennsylvania to North Carolina nearly four years ago with her kids Leah, Alexis, Joel and Aaden, now 20, and twins Mady and Cara, now 24, who were both attending college at the time but would come back and visit.

“It is the biggest mixed bag of emotions and stress I have ever faced,” Kate told People about Mady and Cara going off to college in the fall of 2019, noting it was a big step for her girls. “Mady and Cara really steered the ship in terms of applying to colleges; they knew what they wanted, and I trusted them. That same feeling is going to have to carry me through my fears now when I think about them going off on their own, fending for themselves, being alone for the first time.”

“They agreed all along that they don’t want to go to the same school,” Kate added at the time. “Their ambitions are so different that they really felt, there’s not one college that would fully answer what each of them wanted.”

Hannah and Collin, also now 20, remained in their father Jon’s care when Kate moved.

Kate last posted on Instagram back in 2024, taking to the social media platform with a birthday tribute to celebrate a milestone for her kids alongside a photo of Alexis, Aaden, Joel and Leah smiling for the camera.

“No more teenagers in this house! Happy 20th birthday, my forever babies! I love you! Who feels old? I know I do! #20yearsold #ItsaPICKLE,” she captioned the post on her Instagram page, showing four of her sextuplets with balloons in the background before enjoying their cake with chocolate icing.
