We finally know what killed the legendary Hugh Hefner. The 91-year-old’s death certificate was revealed by The Blast on Oct. 3, and it gave a lot of insight into the icon’s final days. The Playboy founder had been suffering from multiple illnesses, all contributing to his death. Watch the video below to find out what they were.

One of the most shocking causes behind Hef’s death was E. coli. While a healthy person can fight off E. coli with no problem (just ask Chipotle fans), the Mayo Clinic warns that “young children and older adults are at higher risk of experiencing illness caused by E. coli and more-serious complications from the infection.” They suggest avoiding under-cooked foods, swallowing pool water or being around people who are already affected.

Hopefully now that the cause of death has been released, friends, fans, and family can start to get some closure. Hef passed away in his Los Angeles home at the Playboy Mansion on Sept. 27, and even though he was 91, everyone seemed to think that he was this immortal force. Stunned celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, and Kat Dennings sent their love on Twitter, while his wife Crystal Hefner expressed similar sentiments.

“I haven’t been able to bring myself to write most people back to thank them for their condolences. I am heartbroken. I am still in disbelief,” said Crystal to People. “He was an American hero. A pioneer. A kind and humble soul who opened up his life and home to the world. I felt how much he loved me. I loved him so much. I am so grateful. He was a beacon to the world, a force unlike anything else. There never has and never will be another Hugh M. Hefner.”
