When Liz and Daniel Hodges wanted to expand their family, they had no idea what to expect. Although the Hodges Half Dozen stars were aware that undergoing fertility treatments could result in multiple births, there was a 0.1% chance of carrying quintuplets — according to Liz.

In an excerpt from Refinery 29, Liz wrote that she struggled with conceiving naturally. “Like any birth story, this one starts with my path to pregnancy, which was not as straightforward as it is for some,” she began. “I needed some help getting pregnant and used Clomid when trying for my first son, Rowan, who was born in 2015. But a year later, when we wanted to expand our family to four, Clomid didn’t work, and so we turned to hormone injections. After seven months, I was so excited to get a positive pregnancy test — and then my blood work seemed to indicate we were having twins. Two for the price of one! We knew there was a chance of multiples, but by the time we got to the six-week appointment for an ultrasound, we just wanted to make sure the baby (or two?) was healthy.” Turns out, there were five!

Liz works as a nurse and Daniel is in medical school, so when they were told the news, they were shocked — and realized they needed money. In January 2017, a GoFundMe was set up on their behalf and stated, “This GoFundMe page has been established in hopes of raising $10,000 for Liz and Daniel Hodges, the parents of Rowan (almost 2) and expectant parents of QUINTUPLETS! If you have ever met Liz and Daniel, you understand why God has entrusted these children to them… This is an opportunity for family and friends to show support for the Hodges and to be part of God’s amazing story. Let’s overwhelm them with our love and generosity.”

Although just under $5,000 was raised of the $10,000 goal, we’re sure the family is doing just fine. Last week, Hodges Half Dozen premiered on TLC, and fans are already falling in love with the adorable family. We can’t wait to see more of their sweet faces!

Hodges Half Dozen airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
