Gwen Stefani in ‘Process’ of Annulling Marriage to Gavin Rossdale, So She Can Marry Blake Shelton

Talk about bittersweet. Despite the fact that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale finalized their divorce in 2016, the “cool” singer, 49, still has one major hurdle to overcome before she can marry her boyfriend, country crooner Blake Shelton.

According to Us Weekly, Gwen “began the formal process” to have her 14-year union with Gavin, 53, annulled by the Catholic church. “Gwen’s religion has always been extremely important to her, and Blake is completely supportive of this,” a source told the publication.

For those of you who may not know, the Catholic church doesn’t recognize divorce. Therefore, unless Gwen has her marriage annulled, she and Blake, 42, will be unable to exchange vows in a church. Ultimately, whereas divorce acknowledges that the marriage took place, getting an annulment means your courtship was “invalid” a.k.a technically didn’t happen.  

Thankfully, once the annulment matter is taken care of, we have no doubt that the lovebirds will have a beautiful life together. After all, Gwen and Blake have already become one of Hollywood’s most adorable couples. The A-listers are constantly gushing over one another on social media and on television, for that matter.

Back in December, for example, Gwen told Ellen DeGeneres what she really thought about Blake being dethroned by Idris Elba as the  “Sexiest Man Alive.” When the TV host, 61, asked Gwen if Blake got a “little less” sexy after being stripped of his title, the mother-of-three said, “Honestly, he got sexier.” Ohh, la la! Clearly, attraction has never been a problem for the couple.

Don’t get it twisted, though. Their bond is hardly skin deep. Back in December, Gwen revealed her greatest wish for their relationship. During an appearance on Today, the blonde beauty said “I hope so,” when asked if she and Blake’s love will last forever. OK, you two, time to get married already! Here’s hoping that Gwen is granted a speedy annulment. We’re ready to hear some mushy-gushy vows.
