Former MTV reality star Madeleine Cornish has been arrested after police found her six-month-old mastiff, Benson, so malnourished he ranked on the lowest number possible on the body condition scale used by veterinarians.

The 22-year-old was charged with animal cruelty and tampering with physical evidence after she intentionally abandoned the pup while moving, leaving him alone without food or water for three weeks, the arrest warrant states.

To avoid prosecution, she then allegedly dumped the dog. He was eventually found and has since been in the care of The Arrow Fund, a non-profit that offers treatment to animals that have been victims of extreme torture.

The organization has since renamed the pup Hank and helped nurse him back to health.

Since arriving at The Arrow Fund in July, he has been placed in a foster home, where he is not only cared for properly but also “showered” with “love and attention.” As of last week, he weighed a healthy 52 pounds!

“He is making such great progress and we can’t wait to see him improve as the days go on,” they wrote on Facebook.

In 2010, Madeleine first received exposure on MTV’s Baby High, a 2010 television special about young mothers enrolled in the TAPP—Teenage Parent Program—at their Louisville, K.Y., high school.
