He’s not ashamed! Recently, it was revealed that former American Idol co-host Brian Dunkleman is now an Uber driver. But this isn’t a “look how far he’s fallen” sort of story, according to Brian himself. He took to Twitter to defend his job with Uber, and his girlfriend came to his defense as well.

On Jan. 3, Brian tweeted in response to the story about his new profession, “I chose to stop doing standup comedy and started driving an Uber so I could be there for my son as much as he needed after our life as we knew it was destroyed. Print that.” He was likely referring to his divorce from his estranged wife, Kalea Dunkleman, and their custody battle. Brian then added, “And I make over a grand on a good week motherf—–s,” with the hashtag “#HumanBarnacles.”

Brian’s girlfriend also chimed in and defended her man. She wrote on Twitter on Jan. 3, “This is why he’s an Uber driver. F–k you #ImInLoveWithAnUberDriver.” That caption was on a photo of Brian with his son, Jackson. In a follow-up tweet, she posted a photo of herself in a bikini with the caption, “This is what an Uber driver’s girlfriend looks like. F–k you #ImInLoveWithAnUberDriver.” Brian later retweeted both of her responses.

Comic and actor Orny Adams also defended Brian and wrote in part on Twitter, “Listen I thought you died…I’m relieved to find out you’re just driving Uber. No shame in honest work.” Brian retweeted that sentiment as well, before adding around noon on Jan. 4, “Light or dark? Time to choose a side. I feel a lot of light coming my way right now.”

News of Brian’s new gig came out when he disclosed his occupation as “Uber driver” in financial documents. Otherwise, Brian has mostly been lying low since his American Idol days, and it’s really not anyone’s business what he does to earn a living. Whatever pays the bills, man!
