Should we be glad that Jill Duggar‘s latest recipe is for cooking a vegetable? In her most recent post shared on the Dillard family blog, the Duggar daughter is showing her followers how to whip up sweet green beans. Though she’s thankfully ditched the canned ingredients her family loves this time around, the replacement that she’s using isn’t necessarily winning her any favor either. It’s even left some wondering if she’s ever met a fresh vegetable in her life.

“These green beans are sure to be a favorite with everyone!” the mom-of-two shared on her blog. “At the ‘big house’ (Duggar home), we’d usually serve these as a side with beef brisket and party potatoes! This recipe makes one, large industrial size pan, or two 9×13″ pans and serves about 20 people as a side.” On Instagram, she showed off a screenshot of the recipe page, but fans started dishing out the hate immediately.

“Why can’t you cook healthy?” asked one simply. “Looks undercooked,” commented another. One seemed intrigued by the recipe at first — only to balk once they saw the ingredients. “Lol … I didn’t see that it had that much butter and sugar. Lol,” they wrote when they realized the dish called for two full cups of brown sugar as well as a full cup of butter or margarine. Some of Jill’s regular haters were at least a little impressed, though. One countered, “This is an improvement. She’s using frozen rather than canned beans.” Another added, “This … looks like real food 😱.”

But, hey, at least it’s something green, right? That’s better than that canned BBQ tuna recipe she shared at the beginning of the month or the spaghetti pie she posted in January, right? It seems like the former Counting On star has made a real effort to cook more vegetables in 2019 — and we’re here for it, even if they do come from the freezer section and not the farmer’s market. After all, everyone’s gotta start somewhere, right?
