Justice for Nipsey Hussle? The rapper, 33, died from multiple gunshot wounds at Marathon Clothing on Slauson Avenue on Sunday, March 31, and now fans are petitioning to rename the Los Angeles street after the late hip-hop mogul.

On Tuesday, April 2, the written request filed on Change.org is asking for Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to rename the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue in L.A. to Nipsey Hussle Way, “in honor of a community icon.” The corner is symbolic because not only was it the location of his store, but it was also where he was gunned down.

The petition already has over 220,000 signatures but needs to be shown to the proper government officials in L.A. before anything is considered. During the press conference, Councilman Harris-Dawson — who said he was a friend of Nipsey’s — quoted his lyrics in his speech. “Bullets don’t have names, and as long as they are flying, all of us are in danger,” he said.

Clearly, Nipsey touched many people’s lives. Mayor Eric Garcetti had nothing kind words to say about the California native. “Nipsey Hussle was an artist that touched our city and the lives far beyond of the City of Angels throughout this country and this world,” he said. “He was somebody who was a gifted and brilliant artist. An entrepreneur who found global success. He was a tireless advocate for the young people of this city and of this world, to lift them up with the possibility of not being in prison by where you come from or past mistakes but the possibility of what comes in the future, and his impact on our city was deep.”

Police captured the suspect, 29-year-old Eric Holder, less than 48 hours after the fatal incident. “The Bellflower Police Department has detained a man that they believe is the suspect in the Nipsey Hussle murder,” Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lomeli tells In Touch.

The news was later confirmed on Twitter. “Eric Holder, the suspected killer of Nipsey Hussle, has been arrested and is in police custody. Thank you to both our community for the heightened awareness/vigilance, and our partners at @LASDHQ,” the post read.

Our thoughts are with Nipsey’s family and friends during this tough time.
