She’s speaking her truth! Duck Dynasty star Sadie Robertson has lived her life openly in the spotlight since she rose to fame on her family’s reality TV series and almost nothing is off limits. The 20-year-old took to Instagram over Labor Day Weekend to bravely open up about her private struggle with an eating disorder.

Sadie and her family said goodbye to their fans when the series finale of the A&E show aired back in April, but she has continued to keep fans updated on her life through social media and her blog. In a post published on Friday, Sept. 1, Sadie explained that it’s important for her to be “real” — which is why she decided to open up about her eating disorder. Watch the video below to find out what Sadie said!

In her blog post, she explained that her struggle with a negative body image happened right after she competed on Season 19 of Dancing With the Stars. “It was dark. It was ugly. It was insanely difficult. It was done in secret. It was hidden. I did not even tell my own mother until recently. I thought I had everything under control,” she wrote. “My self-worth was demolished, and I began to lose sight of my true identity.”

When she was at the height of her struggle, she said obsessively counted calories and she said she would measure her thighs “at least five times a day, making sure they hadn’t grown beyond what I could reach.”
