Selena Gomez called it quits with Justin Bieber because he was “getting into drugs.”
The 21-year-old’s grandfather, Ricardo Gomez, reveals the former Disney Channel actress finally ended their on-again, off-again relationship earlier this year because she was unhappy with his bad-boy image and accompanying behavior—including multiple arrests and alleged marijuana use.
“He’s been getting into trouble a lot, we blame it on the people hangs out around with. His friends are bad influences,” he says.
“Selena even told us that she didn’t want to be with him because he was getting into drugs.”
Ricardo got to know the pop star first-hand when Justin visited him and his wife, Mary, at their Texas home—but he says the nice young man he met isn’t the same guy making headlines today.
“He was a nice little fella, totally different from what he is now,” Sel’s grandfather recalls.
“Lately we are upset by his behavior. They say Selena is a good influence on him and that she’s the one thing that will help him control himself.”
Despite Justin’s problems, Ricardo thinks he can learn to accept the singer in his life.
“I think she loves him. If he were to eventually propose… I don’t know,” he tells OK! Magazine. “We’d be happy, because she’s happy with him.”
