Better luck next time, royal feud fans! Despite the fact that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle unfollowed Kate Middleton and Prince William on Instagram, the expecting parents had a totally noble reason for doing so. On Tuesday, April 30, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took to social media to share a special post about Mental Health Awareness Month where they offered a perfectly good explanation for their Insta-purge.
In order to shed light on the important cause, Meghan, 38, and Harry, 34, are only following organizations that promote “mental well-being, mental fitness, body positivity, self-care and the importance of human connection.” Pretty incredible, huh? “We invite you to explore the extraordinary stories of strength, and the commitment to kindness as seen in the above accounts,” the pair wrote.
In addition to their powerful message, Meghan and Harry tagged all 16 organizations including Jameela Jamil’s I WEIGH, Talkspace, Black Mental Health Matters and many more. Unsurprisingly, those following the couple left countless messages of adoration, praise and thanks.
“Always forward thinking. Thank you both for bringing awareness to a subject that sorely needs to come out into the open. Everyone one of us knows someone struggling with mental health issues, whether in our own families or friends,” one user commented. “Thank you for everything you do for mental health! It’s so important,” added another.
Funny enough, though, lots of other people thought the notification from Meghan and Harry’s account would be a birth announcement. After all, the first-time mother is due any day now! “These alerts are so suspenseful,” one person wrote. “Thought it was baby news! I’m so restless over here,” echoed another. “Why y’all trying to give us a heart attack with a notification?” one particularly alarmed user chimed in.
As excited as we are to meet the royal baby, a post advocating for mental health is never a bad thing! Thanks, Meghan and Harry.
