A new month means a new controversy for Derick Dillard! The former Counting On star — who was fired from TLC after making transphobic comments about Jazz Jennings — is under fire yet again, this time for allowing his seven-month-old son, Samuel, to play with a water bottle.

The seemingly innocent activity faced immediate backlash from daddy-shamers, who slammed the reality TV exile for voluntarily giving his child a choking hazard. “I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but is that even safe for babies?” one person wrote. Another added, “Don’t let that bottle cap come off! Watch him carefully.” A third parenting expert chimed in, “Remove the cap and the plastic ring around! He could choke.”

Recently, the 28-year-old and his wife, Jill Duggar, received backlash from Internet trolls who claimed they’re hiding Samuel’s alleged medical condition. Many have pointed out that the little one appears to lack a prominent bridge in his nose, an indicator for certain genetic disorders. His dad also recently posted a photo of him hooked up to wires in the hospital, a tell-tale sign that something went wrong following his birth. “That is a tube to suction fluid out of the lungs,” one fan commented on the series of photos Derick posted in honor of his mother’s birthday. “When babies are born by C-section, the fluid does not get pushed out by contractions. It is normal to have to get this out, not a complication. Happened with both my C-section babies.” Another added, “Omg poor Samuel, feeding tube and oxygen don’t think he was as healthy at birth as you said originally.”

Following Samuel’s birth, Jill started posting cryptic messages on Instagram like, “It’s easy to praise God when things are going great, but do we continue to count our blessings when things aren’t going like we planned?” Hmm — these two can’t catch a break!
