Nothing says "I love and appreciate everything you do for me and our family" like a free milkshake! Derick Dillard took to Instagram on May 25 (one week after Jill Duggar's birthday) to show the world that he showed his wife a good time for her special day. But fans couldn't get over the fact that he repeatedly mentioned that he didn't actually pay for it.

"Last night we celebrated Jill’s birthday by getting her free chocolate mess! #birthdayweek #free #chocolatemess #birthday," he captioned a photo of them both beaming behind a milkshake with a candle in it. "Key word 'free,' lol," wrote one fan. but it doesn't seem like Jill minded. "And my date was the most handsome man in the world! ??" she commented.

To be fair, it does sound like Jill got a full meal out of the trip. When a fan asked where they were, Jill commented on the post saying, "The Marketplace restaurant! So yummy! If you ever go you gotta try their cheese fritters, tenders, sweet potato fries with glaze, blueberry poppyseed dressing on your salad, and the famous chocolate mess….and yes….that’s pretty much what I order every time! Although everything is delish! ? My mom’s fave place and one of my faves too! ❤️." Derick is also a big fan, as Jill took him to the restaurant for a milkshake in March, though she didn't mention that it was free.

Other fans didn't think it was such a big deal that they got a free dessert. "Do you mean to tell me that you NEVER go to a restaurant on a birthday because you get something free?" asked one. Another agreed, responding, "I love free birthday stuff!"

Some fans wondered why it took them so long to celebrate her birthday. Jill has been alone a lot lately, from taking the kids to vote, to visiting a mosque for Ramadan, to starting a garden in the back yard. Perhaps that's because Derick is working again, which might also explain why he made his controversial Twitter account private.
