A perfect match! Demi Lovato and her boyfriend, Austin Wilson, just made their relationship debut on Instagram, and now an insider close to the pair revealed why their connection is so strong. “Austin and Demi share the same circle of friends and most of them are also in recovery,” a source told In Touch exclusively. “It’s super important for her to surround herself with people who are healthy. But Demi feels really comfortable with Austin because he understands her struggle and her journey, so they can really talk about and bond over their shared experiences and their sobriety.”

On November 12, the 27-year-old uploaded a mirror selfie with her new beau, writing, “My [red heart emoji].” A second source revealed the brunette beauty met Austin, 25, through mutual pals. “Demi’s new boyfriend Austin is best friends with her hairstylist Dom Serna, who works for Chris McMillan,” an insider previously revealed to In Touch. “Demi and Austin have been running in the same circle for a while and have been friendly and things recently turned romantic.”

The duo was “very close friends with Tommy Trussell, who overdosed last month,” the insider explained. The “Confident” crooner took to Instagram following Tommy’s untimely death in October and posted a sweet tribute to him. “Devastated. Please hold your loved ones tight. Tell them they are special and that you love them. Make sure they know it. RIP to my boo, @sirtruss,” she wrote at the time. Following the news, Demi got a tattoo in his honor.

Austin, for his part, posted a sweet message about his friend on the ‘gram. “RIP, bro. I love you so much,” he wrote. “I’m so grateful for the times that we had while you were here. You are such a special soul. You had the biggest heart and made everyone feel like a million dollars. I know you’re looking down on us now.”

Despite some tough times, Demi seems to be in a great place following her near-fatal overdose in July 2018, when she was found unconscious at her Hollywood home. “She’s writing songs, working out, meditating and just filling her path, and of course, being sober,” another source revealed of her new normal. “She feels like her last relapse was an eye-opener and a reminder that she needs to stay diligent and work her sobriety program.”

Not only has the Texas native made public appearances at events, but she appears to be back in the studio. “Recording a song for my loyal Lovatics — the ones who support me and whatever makes me happy,” she captioned a snap of her microphone on November 13. “If you hating, that ain’t you. Bye.”
