Terrifying Celebrity Ghost Stories Prove That Things Go Bump in the Night in Hollywood Too

Who hasn’t had a weird hookup? The “TiK ToK” singer told Ryan Seacrest on his KISS FM radio show in 2012 that she got to know a ghost in a “sexy” type of way.

“It’s about experiences with the supernatural … but in a sexy way,” she said at the time. “I had a couple of experiences with the supernatural. I don’t know his name! He was a ghost! I’m very open to it.”

Miley Cyrus

Miley was just being Miley when she and her family experienced a supernatural occurrence. While on her European tour in 2013, Miley rented a flat inside of a converted bakery. 

“It was seriously so terrifying. It used to be an old bakery, and they turned it into an apartment building, and I was having really crazy dreams and really scary things, and one night, my little sister – it sounds crazy to tell you – but she was standing in the shower, and all of a sudden, I hear her scream,” the singer told Elle UK at the time. “I run in there, and the water had somehow flipped to hot but it was still … It wasn’t like the water had just changed, the knob had turned, but she hadn’t turned it, and it was burning her. She was really red.”

That’s not all. 

She also believed she had seen a little boy sitting on the sink, kicking his feet, watching her shower. Her aunt revealed that she had left the apartment with everything locked up, but when she returned every door and window was open.

The family packed up and moved to the Soho Hotel.

Matthew McConaughey

While naked, Matthew heard the sound of a “dime dropping from 10 feet off the ground onto a glass table.” He grabbed a bat, still naked, to see what the noise was — he believes it was a ghost, whom he has since named Madame Blue. 

“She has no qualms with me. We get along just fine,” the Ghosts of Girlfriends Past star told Examiner. “She’s a cool ghost. Maybe me being nude all the time is why we get along.”

“I believe in ghosts, so I have a ghost app,” the singer told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show in October 2015. “I believe that spirits can tap into technology. Why not, right?”

“Look,* I was in a venue, and it actually said people in my life by name,” she admitted. 

Keanu Reeves

Apparently, ghosts aren’t afraid of the suburbs. “I was living in New Jersey when I saw and felt this ghost,” he recalled on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. “I remember just staring at this suit, which had no body or legs in it as it came into the room before disappearing. It was a double-breasted suit in white, and I looked at my nanny, who was just as shocked as me. I just couldn’t get back to sleep afterwards, and I still see the figure in my dreams.”

Emma Stone

In 2014, Emma told David Letterman that her long-deceased grandfather leaves her and other family members quarters. 

“There’s a long family history with quarters. My grandfather leaves quarters. And it’s just amazing. It’s him! It’s absolutely him,” she said at the time. “It’s such a long story that you’d have to go to commercial five times and roll to a clip and then come back and I’d still be telling the story. But it’s him, you guys, it’s him!”

She added, “It’s not a logical thing. It’s magical.” 

Demi Lovato

Demi recently revealed that while on a birthday trip to Joshua Tree, they saw a UFO, but it isn’t their first experience with the unknown. As a child, Demi had a ghost friend named Victoria. 

“There would be times where my dad would lose his belt, and he would search the house, like, three times while my mom, my sisters, and I would help. We’d look all over the place, and then all off a sudden, we’d go back into his room, and the belt would be there perfectly coiled on the bed. It also happened with socks,” Demi told Fader about the trickster spirit in 2018. 

Their family also witnessed spirits walking about the house and, one night, Demi saw a little girl “dressed like she was from the 1800s or 1700s just standing in [their] closet.”

The singer told their mother about the encounter. 

“And then, she hit me with this: ‘Well, you know, when you were 5 years old,I came upstairs into the room by your closet, and you were talking to yourself.’ There was a picture frame with a little girl dressed like she was from the 1800s — it had come with the frame,” Demi explained. “My mom came in and asked, ‘Demi who are you talking to?’ And I said, ‘She’s my best friend, Victoria.'”

Ariana Grande

Ariana had a wild experience while in Kansas City. “I’ve had a ghost/demon experience. We were in Kansas City a few weeks ago and went to this haunted castle and were so excited. The next night we wanted to go to Stull Cemetery, which is known as one of the seven gates to hell on Earth. The Pope won’t fly over it,” the singer told Complex in 2013.

“I felt this sick, overwhelming feeling of negativity over the whole car, and we smelled sulfur, which is the sign of a demon, and there was a fly in the car randomly, which is another sign of a demon,” she continued. “I was like, ‘This is scary, let’s leave.’ I rolled down the window before we left and said, ‘We apologize. We didn’t mean to disrupt your peace.’ Then, I took a picture and there are three super distinct faces in the picture — they’re faces of textbook demons.”

She attempted to send it to her manager only to receive an error that read, “This file can’t be sent, it’s 666 megabytes.” Afterward, she continued to experience frightening events until she ultimately deleted the photo.

Eric Bana

While working on the horror flick, Deliver Us From Evil, the actor ran into his own evil spirits. “I know for a fact the makeup, special effects team had some truly scary things occurring,” he told Us Weekly. “They had a ghost in their workshop — there’s absolutely no doubt … It got to the point where some of them would slip on the floor, they could no longer sleep there, there was no chance.”

Lucy Hale

The Pretty Little Liars actress told Hollywood Teenzine in 2010 that she lived with a ghost. She claims that her coffee machine would turn on by itself and she would hear doors closing.

While filming Extremely Wicked, Lily claims that one of serial killer Ted Bundy’s victims visited her.

“I started being woken up by flashes of images, like the aftermath of a struggle,” she told The Guardian in 2019. “I discovered that 3 A.M. is the time when the veil between the realms is the thinnest and one can be visited.”

“I didn’t feel scared — I felt supported,” she continued. “I felt like people were saying: ‘We’re here listening. We’re here to support. Thank you for telling the story.’”

This wasn’t the actress’ first experience with a ghost either. While filming The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Lily was staying at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin, Ireland. 

“I open my eyes, and I hear a giggle,” she revealed on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in 2013. “And then, I felt a rush of air across my body, and I heard all these doors slamming, like fire doors — the ones you don’t hear opening, but then the air — it closes. Three of them — and there were three doors outside my room.”

The hotel informed Lily that there was a ghost named Mary Masters haunting the hotel’s sixth floor. It is believed that Mary was 7 when she died in 1846.

In 2019, Kristen revealed to Vanity Fair that she talks to ghosts — to ask them to leave her alone. 

“I talk to them,” she told the outlet. “If I’m in a weird, small town, making a movie, and I’m in a strange apartment, I will literally be like, ‘No, please, I cannot deal. Anyone else, but it cannot be me.’ Who knows what ghosts are, but there is an energy that I’m really sensitive to. Not just with ghosts, but with people. People stain rooms all the time.”

While she isn’t sure she’s seen a ghost, Kendall absolutely believes in them. 

“I do believe in ghosts. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen one, but I’ve experienced some pretty ghost-y situations,” the model told Vogue. “In the house my mom lives in, Kylie and I would always hear footsteps on the roof while no one was home. Kylie’s shower used to turn on all the time and we never knew why. So yeah, I’m convinced it was a ghost.”

Instead of being scared of a possible spirit, Gigi and her family decided to treat it like a family friend. 

“When we were kids, we lived in this really old house, and I was given the attic as my room. We used to hear this weird sound in the closet, and then, we asked my dad, and he said this old lady used to live in the house,” the model told Vogue in 2018. “We convinced ourselves, and we would talk to her. We’d be like, ‘Girl, we’ll bring you some tea.'”

Jessica Alba

The actress had a horrifying experience when she was just 17.

“I had no idea what it was. I felt this pressure and I couldn’t get up, I couldn’t scream, I couldn’t talk, I couldn’t do anything,” she told the Sydney Morning Herald in 2008. “Something definitely took the covers off me, and I definitely couldn’t get off the bed, and then, once I did, I screamed, ran to my parents’ room and I don’t think I spent many nights in that house ever again … There was definitely something in my parents’ old house — I don’t know what it was. I can’t really explain it. But they got it blessed, and they burned sage and stuff since then.”
