Casey Anthony Trial: Judge Who Presided Over the Case Says She May Have “Accidentally” Killed Daughter Caylee

Judge Belvin Perry Jr. — the judge who presided over Casey Anthony’s 2011 highly televised trial — recently said that he believes the 30-year-old may have accidentally killed her two-year-old daughter Caylee.

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Judge Perry theorized that Casey likely did use chloroform on her child, but not with the intention to kill her. For those who may not remember the case — Casey was ultimately acquitted of first degree murder — the defense argued that Caylee drowned in their family pool and the child’s grandfather, George Anthony, hid her body. The prosecution argued that Casey drugged her daughter with chloroform and then covered Caylee’s mouth with duct tape to suffocate her. Forensics were ultimately inconclusive.

“There was a possibility that she may have utilized [chloroform] to keep the baby quiet…and just used too much of it, and the baby died,” Judge Perry explained. “That’s just one of the many theories as to how this beautiful young lady tragically met her death.”

According to the Sentinel, he stressed that this was just one of many possibilities.

“As I’ve expressed, the only person that really knows what happened was Casey,” he added.
