When we first met Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, they were two teenagers faced with one of the most difficult decisions of their life: They accidentally became pregnant, and they made the painstaking decision to give their child up for adoption in hopes that their daughter would find more stability in another home.

With help from their adoption counselor Dawn Baker (who is still seen on Teen Mom OG from time to time), Cate and Ty found Brandon and Teresa Davis, who agreed to have an open adoption for little Carly, who is now eight-years-old.

In the early days of Teen Mom, we saw a lot of Carly — and one of the recurring plot points on the show centered around their visitation with the little girl. Recently, however, the Davis’ time on-air has seriously dwindled — which has left fans wondering why.

During Season 6 of the hit MTV show, Brandon and Teresa issued a simple request — to stop talking about their daughter on TV and social media, or risk losing their visitation. In one particularly emotional scene, Tyler explained why he wasn’t willing to change his ways (even if it meant losing contact with his child).

“This is what I do, I share my life story,” he said to his father, Butch. “If [they] think I’m not going to talk about it and express how I feel about Carly and this relationship… well, sorry. If that costs me the ultimate cost, well…” Of course, the “ultimate cost” referred to losing his visitation rights with his firstborn child.

“If that happens, I’m not going to have to deal with the hurt and pain,” he explained. “They’re going to have to look at their daughter — and explain to her why she’s hurting. I will never silence what I have to say or my opinion.”

Back in August, however, the 25-year-olds were able to see Carly again — and Nova got to meet her big sister! “On the plane to go see Carly for the first time in [two] years. Can’t wait to see her [and] Novalee together. Warms my heart just thinking about it,” Tyler wrote on Twitter at the time. We’re so happy to hear they’re in a good place with their firstborn.

Teen Mom OG airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EST on MTV.
